Optional Activities in the Canadian Rockies
During our Rocky Mountain tours, you will get plenty of opportunities to join some of the most exciting Canadian Rockies activities and see that Banff and Jasper National Park have to offer. These activities are optional, but highly recommended by our experienced mountain tour guides.
Columbia Ice Explorer Tour

Located on the boundary of Banff and Jasper National Parks, the Columbia Icefield is one of the largest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle, covering an area of nearly 325 square kilometers. The Columbia Icefield is a true “continental divide,” notable for its meltwater- fed streams and rivers that pour into the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific oceans.
Athabasca Glacier, a tongue of ice 6 kilometers long and one kilometer wide, descends almost to road level. You will travel in a specially designed Brewster Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier on a 5-kilometer round trip journey. Your tour guide will tell you about how glaciers are formed and point out interesting geological features as you travel.

The newest attraction in the Canadian Rockies, the Glacier Skywalk, provides entry into the diverse ecosystem and environment of the Rocky
Walk along the cliff-edge walkway and experience incredible views while learning more about the diverse ecosystems that call these mountains home through interpretive nature-inspired exhibits. The glass floored observation platform at the end of the Skywalk is 918 ft over glacier formed valleys and waterfalls and provides an exhilorating and breathtaking experience.
Sulphur Mountain (Banff) Gondola Ride

The Banff Gondola takes visitors to the summit of Suphur Mountain in 8 minutes, an elevation of 2,281 meters (7,486 ft) above sea level.
The relaxing ride to the upper gondola terminal provides visitors with a stunning bird’s eye view of six mountain ranges. While at the summit, follow the one kilometer interpretive Summit Ridge boardwalk. An awe-inspiring experience!
Canoeing on Lake Louise
Price: $55 per Canoe (3 pax maximum)
Although Lake Louise is relatively small – two
kilometers long and less than half a kilometer wide (70 meters (230 ft) at its maximum depth). It is one of the Canadian Rockies’ deepest lakes.
Canoeing on Lake Louise has always been one of the most popular activities, providing some of the best views and photo opportunities available. A canoe can accommodate up to three people and all the necessary equipment is provided at the location. No previous experience required.
Upper Hot Springs

This historic spa and bath house is situated against a backdrop of spectacular alpine scenery. Luxuriate in the comfort of this soothing hot water pool which has attracted thousands of travelers from far and wide to “take to the
waters” for over a century.
The groundwater, which seeps into the mountain and flows deep into the earth’s interior, is heated, and pressurized, and percolates back to the surface loaded with minerals. This restored 1930’s heritage bathhouse is open year-round and boast a scenic view of the famous Mount Rundle. It also features a gift store, restaurant, and day spa which offers massage therapy, a steam room, aroma-therapy and aesthetics.
