Calgary to Banff trip begins with rolling hills and wide-open prairies, providing a glimpse of the vastness of Alberta’s landscape. As you continue, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with the Rocky Mountains gradually coming into view. Prepare yourself for an exhilarating day of sightseeing and activities in Banff National Park. As we make our way to Lake Louise, we will pause at Johnston Canyon for a leisurely hike (optional) along the trail that guides us to the breathtaking Lower Falls. While at Lake Louise, you’ll find numerous viewpoints offering splendid photo opportunities of the majestic Victoria Glacier towering over the lake. From the iconic Lake Louise to the otherworldly Columbia Icefield and beyond to Jasper, this tour allows you to see glaciers up close and discover how they’ve shaped our landscape. A once-in-a-lifetime ride on the Athabasca Glacier—on board our famous Ice Explorers—will have you drinking water fresh from the ice. Board the Rocky Mountaineer train at the Jasper Station at 8:10am MT. Today you will travel from Jasper in the Canadian Rockies to Kamloops, located in the heart of the British Columbia Interior. As you journey west and south you will be surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide and by the river valleys of the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Today’s highlights include Mount Robson, Pyramid Falls, the climb over Yellowhead Pass, and the journey along the North Thompson River as you approach Kamloops. You will arrive in Kamloops between 5:30pm and 7:00pm PT. Spend the evening exploring the town, or relaxing in your hotel. Your journey continues west towards the Pacific Ocean and the coastal city of Vancouver. On today’s rail journey, you will again see dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of the Interior, through winding river canyons and pristine forests, to the Coast and Cascade Mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley. Highlights include the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River and the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. Your rail journey ends on arrival in Vancouver this evening.
